Claire Bain


Teaching artist Claire Bain has worked with preschool through high school kids, including special needs students, since 1993 and has worked with Leap for over 20 years. She is a film/video/performance artist and muralist who has shown work and painted murals in numerous places including the San Francisco Bay Area, New Mexico, New York City, and France.

She has experience teaching/implementing Reggio Emilia theory, Media Literacy, and Visual Thinking Strategies. She has taught visual art, creative writing, and architecture, independently and through Leap: Arts in Education, 826 Valencia, and several other organizations. She also develops curriculum and trains teachers, including in collaboration with KQED's Media Literacy Project and Precita Eyes Muralists.

Claire Bain has a bachelor of fine arts degree in Film from the San Francisco Art Institute, and has received training from the Bay Area Writing Project at UC Berkeley, the De Young Museum, Yerba Buena Center For the Arts, and The Next Stage Theatre Company in San Francisco. Her previous career was 10 years as a geological and civil engineering drafter and technician in Albuquerque, New Mexico and San Francisco.
